Project Trap is a title by Kosoku Interactive — an independent studio making games, tools, and experiments. This is its first in-house engine project.
Project Trap is a grounded urban sandbox set in a 1:1 scale recreation of the Patwood neighborhood in Kalamazoo, Michigan.
Developed by independent studio Kosoku Interactive, the game drops players into a dense, living neighborhood where every decision, physical reaction, and resource matters.
Rather than relying on stylized arcade tropes or fictional generic cities, Project Trap bridges tactical combat and neighborhood exploration with authentic local architecture, physical ballistics, dynamic crowd simulation, and continuous survival mechanics.
Patwood sits in a geographic dip on the Northside of Kalamazoo — a heavy, isolated pocket of a mid-sized Rust Belt city. Boxed in by industrial rezoning, recycling plants, and commercial freight tracks. The soundscape is trains.
This isn't a stylized, cinematic ghetto. The margins of survival here are razor-thin. The architecture, the systems, and the people reflect that — and everything in the game is drawn from the real thing.

Courtyard · exterior block
Two-story brick and siding, rigid and institutional. Paint peeling. Windows dark or patched with cardboard and plastic. No central air — in a humid Michigan summer the units swelter, pushing every resident out onto stoops, porches, and into the crosshairs of the courtyard.

Inside the units, the grit is organic. Black mold spreading behind cheap bathroom drywall. Cockroaches immune to commercial spray. Radiators that knock violently through the winter — or don't cut on at all.

Blue lights on the brick
Violence here is intimate and unpredictable. Shootings often stem from personal disputes, social media feuds, or domestic flare-ups that spill into the courtyards. Unlike major metros where territory is mapped, Patwood's violence has no map.

The whine of dirt bikes tearing down Woodward. Bass rattling the trunk of an old Impala idling in the lot. The sharp crack of gunfire that makes people drop below window level without interrupting their conversation.
Older women on plastic lawn chairs behind screen doors. The block's only real security camera system. They see everything. They know exactly when to close the blinds.
The build is early — 5% in. We're not going to show you engine screenshots before they actually look like the game. First captures drop when the neighborhood is dressed.
Project Trap is 5% complete. Early Alpha — asset engineering in Blender, first-pass lightmap bakes, skeletal constraint rigging, and the custom web-integrated map management system are all in motion. Long way to go. Figuring it out as we go.
